Worth Watching

Last night as I watched the MLB All-Star Game on FOX, I actually enjoyed it. Since the MLB decided to make their game count by having the league that wins get home field for the World Series I have taken a much greater interest in the game.

The game itself last night felt like a playoff game. There was tension with every pitch and heroic plays made, i.e. Carl Crawford, who won the MVP for his leaping catch that brought back a home run off the bat of Brad Hawpe.

Yes, the American League won for the 12th time in 13 games, oh and the one they didn’t win was a tie, but the game was great. I think it is time that the NFL, NBA and NHL take a look and try to make their All-Star game more meaningful. Read the rest of this entry »


A Smashing Victory

On Saturday June 6, Kyle Busch won the Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway for his fourth win in 13 races in NASCAR’s second-tier division, the Nationwide Series. Busch has won many races in his short career and always seems to have something in store for his celebration.

The winner at Nashville always receives a very unique trophy—a Gibson guitar. Upon receiving the guitar in victory lane, after a spectacular burnout on the track, Busch proceeded to smash the guitar on the ground like a rock star would do during a show.

Would you smash a trophy you had just won?

Double ‘Em Up

If you know me, you know it was only a matter of time before I wrote a blog post about NASCAR, so here is my first of maybe many this summer.

NASCAR has made a major change to the format races will be restarted after cautions—and it is a great one. The change will take affect immediately and be implemented for the race on Sunday, June 7 at Pocono.  Fans and even some drivers have been calling for this change for a long time and NASCAR has finally given up on keeping its traditional restart rule.

At track crowds have been down, with the economy, and television ratings have also suffered. The new restart rule might help change these patterns. Read the rest of this entry »
